Royal Randwick is located on Alison Rd in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, NSW and is operated by the Australian Turf Club. It is 6km from Sydney CBD & 8 km from the Domestic Airport.
Royal Randwick has undergone a magnificent renovation providing some great spaces for a quiet day betting, a day out with the girls or a special event. The old members stand has been retained and exudes memories and old world charm.
Last weekend my husband and I spent a fantastic day on the member’s lawn under the umbrellas with a great view of the monstrous TV screen, bookmakers, TAB, bar and food outlet nearby.
You can also take your own nibbles or picnic if you like.
Dining spaces:
The Stables – located at the top of the new members stand, is a great place to enjoy time with a group of friends in the bar, playing pool or sipping Champagne in the Champagne Bar. The exciting part of the stables is that you look over the balcony down to the parade ring and can then go to the other side and watch the race!
On our frequent trips to Randwick we either stay in Sydney CBD/Darling Harbour or Coogee Bay. If we are staying in the city we often take a taxi and have also taken the bus on the return trip to The Star Casino. Taxi is also the easiest way to get to the track from Coogee Bay.
Coogee Bay is close to the track and also a great place to stay for the weekend – we have stayed at Crowne Plaza and Coogee Bay Hotel – and there is accommodation for all budgets. Coogee Pavilion is a great place to have a drink on a beautiful sunny afternoon in the rooftop bar and stay for dinner downstairs – wood fired pizza, seafood, cocktails, ice-cream and a great space for the kids with table tennis tables, play areas and you can even get a haircut at the barber shop whilst having a beer and watching the kids.
Other great places to visit are Coogee Legion Club, Coogee Bay Hotel, Churrasco, Barzura for breakfast and there is a great place for Vietnamese Pork rolls and rice paper rolls called H Xcell Roll on Coogee Bay Rd.
